Singapore Post terminates small parcel delivery service

Recently, Singapore Post announced major adjustments to mail and parcel delivery services, including the termination of home delivery services to alleviate the pressure brought by the surge in e-commerce business.

The adjustment will allow Singapore Post to better cope with the decline in mail volume and increase in e-commerce parcels, while improving service standards.

The adjustment, including the new basic mail box delivery service, will only apply to letters and printed matter weighing less than 500 grams, and will no longer apply to small packages weighing less than 2 kilograms;

The new basic parcel delivery service will deliver parcels weighing less than 2 kilograms to the recipient's mailbox at a charge of SGD 0.9-3.5, depending on the weight of the parcel;

The new package tracking service will provide delivery process tracking and notification services to recipients at a charge of S $ 3.2-4.8.

Singapore Post said that delivering the package directly to the mailbox means that customers can receive the package without waiting at home, reducing the probability of missing the package. This will also make the delivery work more efficient and improve service levels.

Singapore Post CEO Vincent Phang said the company has conducted a comprehensive review of the postal business and invited customers to participate in it to improve the company's product and service standards. According to customer feedback, customers prefer mailbox delivery and tracking services over waiting for parcel delivery at home. Therefore, the parcel tracking service will be the direction of Singapore Post's next service transformation.

In addition, depending on the destination, international airmail charges for Singapore exports will increase by S $ 0.1-0.2 to balance the "last mile" delivery fees paid to other postal operators. However, airmail charges for packages remain the same.

Singapore Post said that since 2014, terminal fees paid to foreign postal operators have increased year by year. Terminal fees increased by more than 25% in 2018, and are expected to increase further each year.
