Buy, buy, buy, Wan Hai continues to expand its fleet

It is reported that after another purchase fund was approved on December 10, Wan Hai Shipping will continue to purchase ships frantically.

This time, the Taiwanese liner operator designated 200 million U.S. dollars for this purpose. Only one month later, 320 million U.S. dollars was earmarked for the acquisition of ships. Previously, the company launched its first round of budget of 360 million U.S. dollars last year and purchased 12 Ship.

OES learned that after the disclosure of the $200 million budget, Wan Hai purchased three feeder ships, Box Express, A Fuji and Bremen Trader.

Due to the rising freight volume and port congestion, freight rates have been breaking through historical highs. Liner operators have been actively expanding their fleets and purchasing new and second-hand ships.

Currently, Wan Hai is the 10th largest liner operator with a total capacity of 417,421 TEU, of which 253,408 TEU of self-owned vessels and 164,013 TEU of chartered vessels.

Wan Hai also commissioned Japan Maritime Union and Japanese shipyard to build more than 20 new ships of 3013TEU and 3055TEU.

The shipping company also built 14 13,000EU ships and ordered thousands of containers for South Korean shipbuilders Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries, bringing its total capital investment to more than US$3 billion.
