Eastern Airlines plans to use Boeing 777 freighter

The low-cost carrier Eastern Airlines revealed that it plans to add two Boeing B777 freighters.

The airline currently operates 10 aircraft, but in a document from the US Department of Transportation, the company announced plans to expand its fleet to 18.

This expansion includes two leased B777-200 freighters, which are planned to be operated on aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) charter flights.

The airline stated that the move is part of an effort to ensure that all employees are fully utilized.

The company stated in the declaration document: “In view of the spread of the epidemic, Eastern Airlines must have the right scale to operate at the highest efficiency. This is especially important, and this is impossible under the current fleet restrictions.”

"At present, the crew and maintenance personnel are not fully utilized. For example, Eastern Airlines can operate all the following new scheduled flight services without adding any crew, maintenance personnel or infrastructure."
