Seven crew members on a container ship in Hong Kong have been diagnosed with the new coronavirus

Seven crew members on a container ship from Malaysia to Hong Kong were diagnosed with the new coronavirus.

According to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the container ship arrived in Hong Kong on August 6, and a 43-year-old Filipino male crew member was diagnosed on August 7.

After , the Hong Kong Health Protection Center sent personnel on board to distribute sample bottles, and then found 6 asymptomatic crew members to be diagnosed.

Zhang Zhujun, director of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Hong Kong Center for Health Protection, said that the container ship had changed shifts in Hong Kong on July 16. At that time, five crew members boarded the ship, four of whom were from the Philippines. The test results were negative at that time. The ship later docked in Singapore and Malaysia, during which there was no crew change, so it is difficult to determine the source of the virus.

Zhang Zhujun said that considering that the currently infected crew members have stayed on the ship for a period of time, it is believed that there must be a chain of transmission and an outbreak on the ship.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government has tightened crew shift inspection and quarantine arrangements since July 29, and suspended crew shifts on all passenger ships and cargo ships that did not handle cargo handling in Hong Kong.

also stipulates that for cargo ships that carry out cargo loading and unloading in Hong Kong, the crew must obtain a negative test result within 48 hours before departure. After arriving in Hong Kong, they must submit a deep throat saliva model and confirm the test result before leaving.
