Singapore container port grows 4.6%

Singapore, the world's second-largest container port, has resumed growth in 2021. Despite the spread of the epidemic, this city-state continues to attract new companies to do business.

Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Transport, Xu Hongda, said that from January to May this year, Singapore’s ports increased by 4.6% year-on-year, an increase of 3.9% from 2019 before the outbreak. Overall, Singapore's container throughput dropped by 0.9% in 2020.

"I am encouraged by this positive development, and I want to thank our workers, businesses and partners for their resilience and joint efforts to achieve this result," Minister Chee at the virtual launch ceremony of the Smart Port 2021 Challenge Said.

"Neither the new crown pneumonia nor the Suez Canal incident earlier this year has prevented us from expanding our port business."

Singapore’s shipping cluster continues to grow. In 2020, 11 shipping groups will enter Singapore and 8 shipping companies will expand their business.

"Investment channels are still healthy. From January to May 2021, with the support of Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA), five maritime companies have expanded or established new businesses in Singapore."
