Portchain optimizes terminal operations at Penang Port Terminal

The main port of Malaysia, Penang Port, chose the berth optimization engine of Portchain, an artificial intelligence solution provider, to optimize berth allocation so that its customers can monitor the status of berths in real time.

Portchain and Penang Port will collaborate on a project to improve the berth planning of Penang Port North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT). Portchain’s berth optimization engine will digitize the planning process to optimize resource allocation and create a unique digital collaboration for employees and customers in Malaysia’s oldest port.

“Our platform and artificial intelligence-driven optimization algorithms will increase planning speed and accuracy, allowing berth planners to increase terminal capacity or reduce operating costs,” Portchain’s CCO Thor Thorup pointed out. He went on to add, “By creating one and all A public platform for stakeholders to share information in real time. It will also build trust and simplify communication."

Portchain will collect scheduling data, and terminal planners can evaluate different scenarios and their key performance indicators (kpi) to select the most cost-effective plan and quickly respond to new customer information.

Artificial intelligence-driven optimization software will further assist planners while realizing the automation of resource allocation for all ships. Portchain said in a statement: "This will help planners find the best plan to increase capacity or reduce operating costs."

In addition, Portchain's cloud-based software allows the Port of Penang and Portchain to collaborate and deploy the software completely remotely.

"Through Portchain, we can create the next step in data-driven decision-making to further improve operational efficiency. We will also provide real-time information by connecting all customers and internal stakeholders to the Portchain platform, thereby creating more transparency and improving cooperation with Their collaboration.” commented Dato' Sasedharan Vasudevan, CEO of Penang Port.
