DHL adjusts Southeast Asia network to meet e-commerce needs

DHL Express will provide dedicated cargo flights from its Hong Kong hub to Ho Chi Minh and Penang to meet the growing demand for e-commerce.

The express company said that it will fly from its central Asia hub Hong Kong to Penang 5 times a week, and the new flight to Ho Chi Minh will fly 6 times a week.

Previously, these two destinations were part of a single cycle. DHL said that separating the two cities will increase cargo capacity and shorten the transit time to these two cities.

In addition, DHL Express will upgrade the aircraft between Hanoi and Hong Kong from Boeing 737-400 to Boeing 737-800, which will provide greater capacity.

Ken Less, CEO of DHL Express Asia Pacific, said that the company is experiencing a surge in B2C and B2B e-commerce shipments. "Tech-savvy digital natives have begun to occupy a dominant position among merchants and consumers globally and even in Asia."

He said: "This has changed people's expectations of e-commerce. Customers want high-quality, fast, reliable, convenient and flexible services."

"By opening flights to Ho Chi Minh City and Penang, and upgrading our aircraft for Hanoi, customers in these markets will continue to enjoy high-quality services as we seek to deliver within one day."

Sean Wall, Executive Vice President of Network Operations and Aviation, DHL Asia Pacific, added: “We have been closely monitoring shipment trends and continue to find gaps to further improve our transportation time. Considering that the Asia Pacific region is due to lack of abdominal space, international aviation Capacity is still limited. We have been taking decisive measures to invest in additional routes and freighters to ensure that we have sufficient capacity to maintain customer service."

Ho Chi Minh route will use an A300F aircraft with a capacity of 62 tons. The company is expected to ship goods such as fashion clothing, clothing accessories and materials, and electronics.

On the Penang route, an A300F aircraft with a deadweight of 50 tons will be transported with electronic components and parts, which will constitute most of the air cargo.

DHL Express currently has 23 dedicated aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region and 4 regional hubs in the Asia-Pacific region, providing support for local and regional customers, e-commerce merchants and other enterprises to promote the growth of intra-Asia trade.
