Another Singaporean product tanker was boarded by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea

Recently, with the end of the southwest monsoon in the Gulf of Guinea, many pirate attacks have occurred in the area.

Today, another Singapore-national product tanker was boarded by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

According to foreign media reports, the product tanker that was boarded by the pirates was "TORM ALEXANDRA" (IMO 9466001), with a deadweight of 50,216 tons, built in 2010 and flying the Singaporean flag.

It is reported that the "TORM ALEXANDRA" encountered pirates about 180 nautical miles southeast of Lome, Togo, Gulf of Guinea. The ship was sailing from the Lome anchorage to West Africa when the pirates encountered, and the port of destination was not stated.

The 21 crew members (20 Filipinos and 1 Montenegro) on board the ship hid in the anti-piracy safety cabin before the pirates boarded the ship. There were no casualties.

Maritime Security Intelligence Agency Dryad Global stated that these are the three ships that have been boarded by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea since October 23. The first two incidents occurred in Nigerian waters south of Lagos and south of Blas.

Due to another attempt, the pirates are likely to take the risk even more desperately in an attempt to achieve their goal-kidnapping crew members for ransom.

The editor hereby reminds all shipowners, ship management companies, and crew that they must guard against piracy when passing through the Gulf of Guinea recently.
